APOSTLE ANDREW & SAINT STEPHEN & MODESTOS

This distinctive chapel is located to the east of the free community of Avgorou, built on the same site as the official Monument to the Heroes of EOKA 1955-59. It is a symbolic church that connects religious faith with the historical memory of the homeland. Its dedication is threefold: to the Protomartyr Stephen, to the Apostle Andrew and to Saint Modestos, with the latter honoured especially in memory of the first casualty of the liberation struggle, Modestos Pantelis from Liopetri.
