ARMENIAN CHURCH OF ASTVATSATSIN

This particular church is the official cathedral of the Armenian community in Cyprus and is located in the area of Strovolos, next to the Nareg school. Its erection began at the end of the 1970s in order to replace the historic medieval church of the community that was cut off in the occupied areas. It is the only architectural example on the island that follows faithfully the traditional Armenian style, with the characteristic central octagonal dome. Today it functions as the main spiritual and social core for the Armenian Cypriots of the capital.
