ARCHANGEL MICHAEL

This historic monument is an exceptional example of medieval church construction with a dome, which originally functioned as the katholikon of a monastery. During the period of Ottoman rule, the site acquired particular religious significance as it was used as the seat of the Metropolis. In its interior, despite the passage of the centuries, precious and rare wall paintings survive that depict hierarchs and religious scenes. The simplicity of its external stone-built structure is complemented by the absence of a bell tower, preserving its authentic monastic atmosphere
