GIALIA MONASTERY
This entry concerns the ruined medieval monastic complex of Panagia Chrysogialiotissa, which is located deep within the Paphos forest. The monastery was founded by the king of Georgia and was for centuries an important spiritual and cultural centre of the Georgians in Cyprus. Owing to its complete destruction after the Ottoman conquest, the site is not functional for sacraments, but is protected as a unique and precious archaeological site.
