CHURCH OF SAINT AFXENTIOU

This church is dedicated to Saint Auxentios the Alaman, who practised asceticism in a cave of the area, and its present stone-built form is the product of successive construction phases. It is a single-aisled, rectangular structure with a pointed vault, which incorporates architectural elements from earlier building structures. This historic monument of Karpasia has been under Turkish occupation since 1974, making the regular celebration of services impossible.
