CHURCH OF SAINT GEORGE ATHALASSIS, AGLANTZIA

This historic church is located on the outskirts of Aglantzia, right beside the Athalassa national forest park. It is a building of the dragoman Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios and the exact date of its erection is attested by a relief plaque at the southern entrance. It is a single-aisled, vaulted church with an impressive wood-carved iconostasis, which is thought to have been originally intended for a monastery. The site offers an extremely quiet environment for the faithful, but owing to its size and its character it is not preferred for the celebration of large sacraments
