CHURCH OF ARCHANGEL MICHAEL

This small, single-aisled timber-roofed little church is located at a very short distance from the church of Saint Sozomenos in Galata. It was erected and decorated with wall paintings at the beginning of the 16th century at the expense of the local believer Polykarpos and his family. Its interior wall paintings are the work of the great Cypriot painter Symeon Axentis and are distinguished for their detail and vividness. Owing to its monumental character and its extremely limited dimensions, the church functions exclusively as a protected historical attraction
