CHURCH OF BELLAPAIS

This church is the church of the historic Bellapais Abbey, built during the period of Frankish rule on the slopes of Pentadaktylos. It is one of the most important examples of Gothic monastic architecture in the East, which after the Ottoman conquest was granted to the Orthodox Church and dedicated to Panagia i Asprophorousa. After the events of 1974, the church remains intact within the occupied archaeological site, preserving its iconostasis, but no longer operates normally for the displaced faithful.
