CHURCH OF PANAGIA KARAVIOTISSA

The historic church of the Virgin Mary (referred to locally also as Panagia Kazaviotissa or Kannaviotissa) is located in the centre of the mountain village of Kannavia. It is a traditional, single-aisled timber-roofed church that was once the katholikon of an old monastery which was destroyed during the 18th century. The church is under the protection of the Department of Antiquities and has a noteworthy iconostasis with rare icons of great religious value.
