CHURCH OF PANAGIA CHRYSOPOLITISSA

This church is considered the oldest church in the occupied city of Kyrenia and is hidden in the narrow lanes behind the historic harbour. It was originally built as a Latin church during the Frankish period, incorporating an impressive Gothic gate on its northern side, while later it functioned as the Metropolis of the city. After decades of abandonment that turned it into a roofless ruin, a major bicommunal restoration project was recently completed for the rescue and promotion of the monument.
