CHURCH OF PANAGIA CHRYSOSPILIOTISSAS
This unique cave church-hermitage is hewn into a precipitous rock of sandstone in Kato Deftera, right next to the banks of the Pedieos river. In order for the pilgrim to reach the interior of the cave, which was suitably formed with vaults and a narthex, he must climb a large external staircase with more than one hundred steps. Although its original wall paintings have been almost completely destroyed by damp, the site is one of the most popular and devotional religious destinations of the Nicosia district
