CHURCH OF CROSS

This plain church is dedicated to the Holy Cross and is the central religious building of the small community of Akoursos in Paphos. Its construction is based on the unadorned local stone and follows the type of the single-aisled basilica, fully harmonised with the traditional character of the settlement. Its interior is distinguished for its intensely devotional atmosphere, housing a simple iconostasis and old icons that the few residents of the area honour. Its enclosure offers a quiet environment for prayer, with a beautiful view towards the semi-mountainous relief of the surrounding district.
