CHAPEL OF SAINT THEODORE OF CHORTAKION (RUINS)

This important medieval monument is located at the rural site of Chortakia, a few kilometres outside Sotira, at a short distance from the well-known church of Panagia Chordakiotissa. The main church dedicated to Saint Theodore the Commander has unfortunately fallen into ruin with the passage of the centuries, with its stone walls now surviving at a very low height. By contrast, the narthex of the church, which was constructed at a later phase of the middle Byzantine period, survives almost intact. The site is protected as an ancient remnant of the rich ecclesiastical history of the area, offering an evocative sight to passers-by.
