CHAPEL OF APOSTLE THOMAS

The chapel of Saint Thomas was sunk into the ground since around it the area was being filled with earth. Following the wish of the residents for its repair, at this moment the chapel occupies a prominent position in the Community. It is a chapel built in the 16th century during the period of the Venetian rule (1489-1570), near the river Tremithos. Architecturally the church is single-chamber and vaulted, which also attests to its date. According to accounts, in the 20th century this church suffered serious damage, since on the north door the following phrase is inscribed: "RENEWED IN MAY OF THE YEAR 1922". In 2019 the chapel of Saint Thomas was declared an ancient monument by the Department of Archaeology and in 2020 its conservation works were completed.
