CHAPEL OF SAINT SOZOMENOS - GERAKION

This modern, mountain chapel is nestled in the verdant area of Marathasa, outside the residential core of the village of Gerakies. Its erection was completed recently, with the official inauguration celebrated in the summer of 2022 by the Holy Metropolis of Morphou. The building follows simple, traditional architectural lines and is inextricably connected with the local piety towards Saint Sozomenos, as in the same area is also the well-known “Agiopetra”. Owing to its remote position within the mountains and its limited size, the church functions mainly as a place of pilgrimage and is not made available for social sacraments
