HOLY MONASTERY OF SAINT GEORGE KOMANON

This historic monastery is built at an isolated site on the western bank of the river Diarizos, very close to the community of Mesana in Paphos. Of the original building complex of the monastery only the small, single-aisled vaulted church survives today, which was founded at the end of the 15th century by refugee monks from Constantinople. In the interior of the building precious examples of wall paintings are preserved that date around 1600, combining the classic Byzantine style with elements of local vernacular icon painting.
