HOLY MONASTERY OF PANAGIA AMIROUS

This historic convent is nestled at the foot of the Kakomallis mountain range, between the communities of Apsiou and Mathikoloni. According to ecclesiastical tradition, it was founded by a Syrian Emir whose blind daughter was miraculously healed when she washed her eyes in the holy water that flowed there. After periods of desolation, the monastery was fully re-established at the end of the 20th century, while in recent years it has been extended with the erection of a new, modern church and guest houses for the needs of the faithful
