HOLY MONASTERY OF PANAGIA OF ARAKA

This renowned church is the katholikon of an old monastery and is located in the mountainous area of Pitsilia, between the villages of Lagoudera and Saranti. Owing to its enormous historical value and its exceptional Byzantine wall paintings, the monument is officially included in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. Its architectural structure is protected by a large wooden pitched roof with hooked tiles, which was constructed to shield the main church and the dome from the harsh weather conditions of Troodos.
