HOLY MONASTERY OF PANAGIA OF KYKKOS

This renowned royal and stavropegic monastery is the wealthiest and most recognisable religious centre of the island. It was founded during Byzantine times with imperial patronage and is dedicated to Panagia Eleousa. Although the building complex was destroyed and rebuilt repeatedly owing to fires, it preserves to this day the priceless miraculous icon that is attributed to Luke the Evangelist.
