HOLY CHURCH OF SAINT PHOTEINI

This is a small, ruined Byzantine church located near the historic Monastery of Saint John Chrysostom on the slopes of Pentadaktylos. After the Turkish invasion of 1974, the area was converted into a controlled military zone, with the result that the church was illegally used as a store for ammunition and war materiel. The church remains inactive and entirely inaccessible to the displaced faithful, constituting yet another place of worship that has suffered the consequences of the occupation.
