HOLY CHURCH OF SAINT CHARALAMPOS (RUINS)

This impressive church is the patron and central religious place of worship of occupied Neo Chorio Kythreas in the Nicosia district. It is a large, single-aisled basilica that historically stood out for its towering, ornately carved stone bell tower, which was a true architectural ornament for the area. After the events of the Turkish invasion of 1974 the church was plundered, while the displaced residents have erected a homonymous refugee church in Aglantzia in order to keep the tradition of their village alive.
