HOLY CHURCH OF SAINT JOHN
This modern, large parish church was erected in 1960 according to plans by the Greek architect G. Nomikos, replacing the old historic little monastery of “Ai-Giannis tis Kourrathas”. The church is located within the fenced area of Varosha and after its abandonment in 1974 it operated for some years by the occupation authorities as a museum of icons, housing rare relics of the 18th century. Today, although it is in an accessible zone near the entry boundaries, its religious use remains forbidden, with the result that no sacraments or services are held.
