HOLY CHURCH OF PANAGIA ELEOUSA

This is the main parish church of the occupied village of Makrasyka in the Famagusta district, which was completed during the 1930s. It is an imposing building, for the erection of which the residents transported stones by cart from the neighbouring villages, demonstrating their deep faith. After the Turkish invasion of 1974, the church was desecrated, savagely looted and illegally converted into a Muslim mosque, with the result that the celebration of Christian sacraments or unrestricted services is entirely impossible
