HOLY CHURCH OF OF GOD SOPHIA, STROUMBI

This church is located in Kato Stroumbi in Paphos and is the central church of the community, dedicated to the Holy Spirit. Its erection began in 1953 by order of the English Governor, in order to replace the earlier church of Saint George that was destroyed by the powerful earthquake of that year. It is an impressive stone-built building of Byzantine style with a dome, which dominates near the central square of the village. In its interior a precious icon of the Holy Spirit is kept dating from the 15th century, while the official inauguration of the church was celebrated in 1975.
