HOLY CHURCH OF HOLY FORERUNNER

The erection of the historic church of the Holy Forerunner in Dromolaxia is placed at the end of the 19th century, with the works beginning in 1875 and being completed at the turn of 1900. The deep devotion of the locals towards John the Baptist, in combination with their spiritual ties with the Monastery of Mesa Potamos, led to the dedication of the church in His name. Architecturally, the building is a classic example of a stone-built single-aisled basilica, representative of Cypriot vernacular church building of that period, with its ornate bell tower being added in 1918. Today, this traditional church, together with the newer and larger one that was built alongside, is the religious core of the community, accommodating daily the worship needs of the faithful as well as a succession of holy sacraments
