HOLY CHURCH OF HOLY CROSS

This historic church is a UNESCO world cultural heritage monument and is famous for its exceptional wall paintings of the Palaiologan period. Its present three-aisled form with a dome is the result of successive extensions, as the original building of the 12th century had been almost completely destroyed. In its interior only the authentic apse of the sanctuary survives, which was exemplarily incorporated into the later medieval building phases.
