CATHOLIC CHURCH OF SAINT CATHERINE

This historic church is the central parish core for the Roman Catholic community of the whole of Limassol, serving a multicultural body of faithful. It was erected at the end of the 19th century by the Order of the Franciscans and has overall dimensions of 23 metres in length by 15 metres in width. Although it originally had Baroque interior decoration, after the radical renovation of 1979 it acquired an impressive neo-Byzantine wall painting of 80 square metres in the niche of the sanctuary. The building functions as an important spiritual refuge and point of social cohesion, hosting daily services in many different languages.
