MARONITE CHURCH OF SAINT ANTHONY

The historic Chapel of Saint Anthony testifies to the centuries-long presence of the Maronite community in Kythrea, which dates back as early as the 13th century. The present structure was erected in the middle of the 20th century to replace an earlier church of the 17th century that had been completely destroyed by an earthquake. After 1974 the church remained inaccessible, but in 2014 restoration works were completed and since then rare, moving divine liturgies take place for the displaced faithful.
