MONASTERY OF SAINT MAMAS

This emblematic monastic complex of the occupied town is one of the most important pilgrimages of the island. The central church combines elements of Gothic and domed construction, while in its interior the marble sarcophagus of the Saint dominates, from which sanctified oil flows. After nineteen seventy-four, the premises were converted into a museum space for icons; however, in recent years the celebration of a festal divine liturgy for the displaced faithful is rarely permitted.
