MONASTERY OF SAINT NICHOLAS (RUINS)

This historic monastery is built on the northern slopes of the Pentadaktylos mountain range, right below the imposing castle of Kantara. The katholikon of the monastery is a single-aisled vaulted church with a narthex, which according to historical documents was rebuilt in 1777 upon earlier foundations. Owing to the Turkish occupation since 1974, the monastic complex remains inaccessible and abandoned, preventing the free attendance of faithful and the conduct of holy sacraments
