OLD CHURCH OF PANAGIA CHRYSELEOUSA

The old church is one of the most important historical and religious monuments of the occupied community of Katokopia in the Nicosia district. It was dedicated to Panagia Chryseleousa and served for decades the spiritual needs of the residents before the events of 1974. Owing to the Turkish invasion and the continuing occupation, the church is no longer in a functional condition for the Greek Cypriot community, remaining nonetheless a powerful symbol of memory and cultural heritage for the displaced residents of the village.
