PANAGIA THEOSKEPASTI

This emblematic church rises upon a natural rock in the heart of the tourist area of Kato Paphos and is dedicated to the Theotokos. The present stone building was completed at the beginning of the 20th century, replacing an earlier Byzantine church that was connected with legends of miraculous covering by clouds for protection from raiders. It houses a precious, ancient icon of the Virgin Mary that is considered a work of Luke the Evangelist, being one of the most important stations of pilgrimage of the city.
