PANAGIA THEOTOKOS

The church of Panagia i Theotokos (also known as the church of the Theotokos in Galata, which borders directly on Kakopetria) is an exceptional monument of mountainous Cyprus. It belongs to the type of the single-aisled timber-roofed church with the characteristic pointed roof of the Troodos area for protection from the snow. In its interior precious wall paintings of exceptional quality from the beginning of the 16th century survive, which follow the late Byzantine tradition with strong Renaissance influences.
