PANAGIA OF EVANGELISMOU

Within the community of Vasa Koilaniou dominates the magnificent church of Panagia tou Evangelismou, which began to be built at the end of the 19th century to meet the needs of the growing population. This impressive building is constructed externally of dressed stone and bears an imposing dome as well as a tall, ornate bell tower. In its interior its unique plaster iconostasis with relief depictions of angels stands out, while the church stands directly above the location where a very ancient underground church previously existed
