PANAGIA OF TYFLOU

This isolated Byzantine chapel is known as Panagia tou Vlou or tou Flou and is located on the Akamas peninsula, at a distance of 16 kilometres from Ineia. The small single-aisled and vaulted church is built upon the ruins of an earlier monastery and offers a panoramic view towards the sea. In its interior an icon of folk art is kept with the inscription “tou Tyflou” (of the Blind Man), which is directly connected with its local name. Owing to its inaccessible location, it is mainly a quiet stop for hikers and pilgrims who explore the nature of Akamas.
