CHAPEL OF SAINT MODESTOS

This beautiful, newly built chapel is located in the community of Astromeritis and comes under the Holy Metropolis of Morphou. Its official inauguration was celebrated with Byzantine magnificence in the summer of 2016, attracting crowds of residents and expatriates of the area. The church is dedicated to Saint Modestos, Patriarch of Jerusalem, who is considered the protector of animals in the Orthodox tradition. Owing to its limited interior space, this picturesque little church operates mainly for pilgrimage and annual festal services, rather than for social sacraments
