HOLY FORERUNNER

This small little church is located a short distance from the Monastery of Panagia tis Stazousas and has a very distinctive history as it remained buried for three centuries owing to a landslide. Its discovery happened by chance after a fire, when the locals noticed an oleander sprouting at the spot, attesting to the existence of water. Digging to find the spring, they brought to light the ancient holy water spring but also the buried church. Today, the single-aisled stone-built structure with the elegant vault is a hidden religious treasure of the area
