Cave of Saint Barnabas

To the north of the community of Vasa Koilaniou lies the historic and secluded cave where the local Saint Barnabas 'of Vasa' practised asceticism. It is a natural hollow within the rock of specific dimensions, which was used as a hesychasterion and spiritual refuge. This space is directly connected with the tradition of the village, as in the past the inhabitants used to resort there to receive advice and spiritual guidance from the saint.
