Cave of Saint John in Sia

This distinctive place of worship is the authentic hermitage where the local Saint John the Cave-dweller (Spileotis) practised asceticism. It is a small cave hewn into the rock, where to this day the stone bed of the Saint is preserved. Placed beside a torrent, the cave functions as a contemplative hesychasterion and is directly connected with the later stone-built country chapel that lies right above it.
