Chapel of Panagia Soumela

This contemplative chapel is located within the courtyard of the central church of Saint Demetrios, inside the refugee settlement of Vrysoulles. It is dedicated to Panagia Soumela, being a living spiritual symbol that honours the refugee roots and the memory both of the displaced of Acheritou and of Pontic Hellenism. The church is built in the traditional Byzantine style with a dome, is fully accessible for the faithful and gathers crowds of pilgrims during its annual feast at the Dormition (15 August).
