Chapel of Saint George Chortakia (12OS M.CH. AIONAS)

This important and devout medieval chapel is located in the historic rural location of Chortakia, a little outside the residential zone of Sotira. It is a single-space, vaulted structure of the middle Byzantine period, which is sturdily built with local, roughly hewn limestone blocks. In its interior survive important but time-worn samples of ancient wall painting, which reveal the rich spiritual heritage of the church. The space is surrounded by a quiet natural landscape, offering an authentic sense of medieval seclusion and tranquility to the modern visitors.
