Christianikos Church of Saint Irene (Ruins)

The early Christian church of Saint Irene in Deneia is today a levelled religious monument from which only a few traces of foundations survive. During the Turkish occupation period, the ruins of this ancient church suffered complete looting, as its building materials and hewn stones were violently removed to be used in the erection of a Muslim mosque. The site retains exclusively archaeological and historical significance for the community.
