Church of Archangel Michael

This small, single-aisled wooden-roofed little church is located at a very short distance from the church of Saint Sozomenos in Galata. It was erected and painted with wall paintings in the early 16th century at the expense of the local faithful Polykarpos and his family. Its interior wall paintings are the work of the great Cypriot painter Symeon Axentis and are distinguished for their detail and their liveliness. Owing to its monumental character and its extremely limited dimensions, the church functions exclusively as a protected historic sight.
