Church of Panagia Saint Sozomenos and Tomb of Saint Sozomenos

This distinctive place of worship is a carved cave-hermitage at the edge of a height of the ruined village of Agios Sozomenos. In its interior is located the tomb of the eponymous Saint, who according to tradition dug the cave himself in order to live as a monk. The face of the rock has been closed with a white wall, converting the hermitage into a church dedicated to the Panagia, while the interior walls bear remnants of medieval wall paintings. Owing to its extremely small and steep space, it is not suitable for the celebration of sacraments, but functions as a historic and spiritual monument.
