Church of Saint George Athalassis, Aglantzia

This historic church is located in the outskirts of Aglantzia, right next to the national forest park of Athalassa. It is a structure of the dragoman Hadjigeorgakis Kornesios and the exact date of its erection is attested by a relief plaque at the southern entrance. It is a single-aisled, vaulted church with an impressive wood-carved iconostasis, which is presumed to have been originally intended for a monastery. The space offers an extremely quiet environment for the faithful, but owing to its size and its character it is not preferred for the celebration of large sacraments.
