Gialia Monastery

This entry concerns the ruined medieval monastic complex of Panagia Chrysogialiotissa, which is located deep within the forest of Paphos. The monastery was founded by the king of Georgia and was for centuries an important spiritual and cultural center of the Georgians in Cyprus. Owing to its total destruction after the Ottoman conquest, the space is not functional for sacraments, but is protected as a unique and precious archaeological site.
