Holy Church of Apostle Barnabas

This majestic church is located in the centre of the refugee settlement of Agios Ioannis in Kato Polemidia and is an architectural jewel of the area. It is built as a three-aisled cross-in-square basilica with an imposing central dome, combining the modern anti-seismic frame of reinforced concrete with a beautiful exterior cladding of traditional Kyvides stone and decorative red bricks. Owing to its large size and comfortable forecourt, it is the focal point of the religious life of the area's inhabitants.
