Holy Church of Apostle Luke

The Holy Church of the Apostle Luke dominates the heart of Aradippou, being the religious and cultural focal point of the area. The history of the site begins around 1700 with a small shrine, which was replaced in 1851 by a larger stone-built church. Owing to the rapid population growth, the old structure was demolished and in 1939 the present imposing church in Byzantine style with a dome was raised. Inside it, the impressive old gilded iconostasis is preserved, while the church's annual festival on 18 October is so important that it has been included in the UNESCO list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
