Holy Church of Holy Cross

This historic church is built on the southern edge of the occupied parish of Chrysida in Kythrea. It is a single-aisled vaulted basilica that was officially inaugurated in 1834, while it was later extended and adorned with an elaborate bell tower of the 20th century. After the events of the Turkish invasion of 1974 the church was closed off to the faithful, while from time to time the occupation authorities have forbidden the holding of scheduled services, making the site a symbol of the anticipation of return.
