Holy Church of Holy Forerunner (St John the Baptist)

The erection of the historic church of the Honourable Forerunner (John the Baptist) in Dromolaxia is placed in the late 19th century, with the works beginning in 1875 and being completed at the threshold of 1900. The deep devotion of the locals to John the Baptist, combined with their spiritual bonds with the Monastery of Mesa Potamos, led to the dedication of the church in His name. Architecturally, the structure is a classic example of a stone-built single-aisled basilica, representative of the Cypriot folk church building of that era, with its elaborate bell tower added in 1918. Today, this traditional church, together with the newer and larger one built alongside, is the religious core of the community, hosting daily the worship needs of the faithful as well as a succession of holy sacraments.
